Commitment to
Sustainability

Sustainable development was first defined in the World Commission on Environment and Development’s 1987 Brundtland report ‘Our common future’ as ‘development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’.

At Westcontrol, this definition serves as a guiding principle. Over the past few years, sustainability has shifted from being seen as optional to becoming essential. This change is driven by evolving EU regulations and global initiatives.

For us, sustainability is more than just meeting external demands from customers and stakeholders. It is a core value that guides our actions. In our daily work, we focus on making small, meaningful improvements—not only for the benefit of our workforce but throughout our entire value chain. Step by step, we are working to evaluate and address key areas to make our operations and value chain more sustainable.

We also know that lasting change requires collaboration. That’s why we work closely with our employees, partners, and customers to improve how we work and contribute to a more sustainable value chain.

Our social responsibilities

At Westcontrol, social sustainability is about creating a positive and inclusive impact on the people we work with, both directly and indirectly. We prioritize fair and safe working conditions, promote diversity and equality, and uphold ethical practices throughout our value chain. By fostering collaboration, respect, and opportunities for growth, we aim to build lasting relationships that benefit both our workforce and society as a whole.

  • We collaborate with NAV (Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration) to help people who have fallen out of the job market and give them a new chance.

  • We work with local educational institutions and have goals for hiring apprentices.

  • We screen our suppliers and, by doing so, ensure that our values are upheld throughout our value chain.

  • We report on conflict minerals to ensure full transparency in our upstream value chain.

Our environmental efforts

Caring for the environment is a key part of how we work at Westcontrol. We actively look for ways to reduce waste, use energy efficiently, and adopt more sustainable practices in our daily operations.

  • We use solar panels and energy wells to reduce our environmental impact.

  • We are ISO 14001 certified, ensuring our commitment to environmental management.

  • We have waste reduction targets to minimize waste and promote recycling.

  • We track our carbon emissions through annual carbon accounting.

  • We focus on ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements such as REACH and RoHS.

Double materiality assessment & CSRD

To support our sustainability efforts, we are preparing to comply with CSRD reporting requirements for FY2025. As part of this, we have conducted a double materiality analysis to identify all potential and actual risks related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues—both within our own operations and throughout our value chain.

By laying this groundwork for reporting, we gain valuable insights into how our activities impact people and the environment, as well as how environmental changes impact us. This understanding helps us create better plans for the future while maintaining a mindset of continuous improvement.

Double materiality considers both how sustainability factors impact a company and how the company’s activities affect the environment and society. It helps businesses assess risks and their broader influence on the world.
