In 1987, it all started in a basement of the small village Tau, located in southwestern Norway. Mikal Dreggevik, a 24-year-old inventor, founded Data- og Systemutvikling. The company was renamed Westcontrol in 1994.
From the outset, the development and production of high-tech solutions have been at the heart of our electronics company, which initially focused on the agriculture and maritime sectors. Today, Westcontrol operates as a comprehensive system house, designing, developing, and manufacturing innovative products for a wide range of industries and applications. As one of Norway’s preferred electronic manufacturing suppliers, we have 430 employees distributed across three different locations.

The mechanical division was established in 1970 by Jan Henry Berget under the name Berget Instrument and Machine Workshop, abbreviated as BIM. In 1987, the name was changed to Berget AS, which remained until the rebranding in 2024 to Westcontrol Berget.
The cable and electrical department was started in 1973 by Vebjørn Tandberg as a division of Tandberg Radiofabrikk TR6. After the bankruptcy of Tandberg, Notodden Elektronikk was founded in 1979. In 2013, Westcontrol became the owner of the electrical department. Around 1993, cable production was spun off into its own company, which eventually became a division of Nopro, later renamed Idea.
In 2016, four companies merged into one under the name Berget AS. These were:
- Westcontrol’s electrical division in Høgås
- Idea’s cable division in Tuven
- Berget’s mechanical division in Tuven
- Telemark Technology’s mechanical division in Tuven

The company boasts a rich and proud history, beginning in 1946 when Thorleif Robertson produced radio communication equipment for the Norwegian fishing fleet. Just two years later, the groundwork was laid for a significant export item: autonomous facilities for both small and large vessels, primarily fishing boats. The commitment to developing high-quality products established Robertson as a strong market player in Norway and later expanded its reach to Europe and the USA.
In 1971, Thorleif Robertson sold all his shares to A/S Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk. By 1972, the company ceased production of ship radio equipment. Over the following years, the company underwent various ownership changes and name revisions. In 2011, Westcontrol AS became the owner, and the company was renamed Westcontrol Robertson AS.
